Lowa – Simply More….

Lowa – Simply More….

LOWA – SIMPLY MORE….

It was training time again at NIton HQ, and this time we met with LOWA to find out what goes into making a top quality, high spec boot.

LOWA was founded in Germany in 1923, and is still based in the same town more than 90 years later. The brand is known in law enforcement and military circles due to its quality – boots that last and can be relied upon despite tough conditions.

Werner Rietehmann is the CEO of LOWA International says “The tougher the use, the more important it is for footwear to be lightweight. But this cannot be at the expense of sturdiness, quality and durability. With the use of newer, lighter materials – all of which have to undergo and pass exhaustive laboratory and real life testing – we have succeeded at developing incredibly durable footwear with significant weight advantages.

“We are proud that police forces, forestry workers and hunters in many countries put their trust in our quality products. As do too military special operations forces and NATO Response Forces. We are truly appreciative of their trust.”

At Niton we stock 3 of the most popular LOWA models amongst law enforcement professionals.

The Benefits

The Vibram Tsavo sole provides excellent grip on all surfaces due to its self-cleaning profile. The sole has breaking, shock and stability zones as well as a cut-away angled heal which provide slip resistance and traction. Because the boots are cement soled the sole can be replaced unlike injection moulded soles, when they eventually wear down they can be re-soled so you don’t have to get a new pair of boots.

The leather used is cow hide, and is tough and durable and holds it shape. Leather is flexible so won’t break (which is important as the boot must flex with bio-mechanical movement of the foot), and the natural water resistance can be enhanced with treatments that do not the leather’s breathability.

LOWA deliberately keep the seams minimal so there are less areas that might rub or cause blisters.

In the waterproof boots, a Gore-Tex membrane is bonded to a 2-layer lining material. The resulting waterproof ‘booty’ stops water seeping in but lets moisture escape creating a temperature-regulated environment so your feet can breathe.

LOWA boots are 100% made in Europe by skilled shoemakers. The craftsmanship skills of its employees are a crucial factor for the success of the brand, along with the high quality components it uses. LOWA only work with suppliers who have ISO quality management certification and who agree to sign a code of conduct ensuring the supply and manufacturing processes are ethical and as environmentally friendly as possible.
