The Niton crew had a training session with Magnum recently to find out about the brand. As with most brands there are a lot of fancy technological terms, but we wanted to find out what this technology really did and how it benefited Magnum wearers.

Hi-Tec Sports was founded in 1974 with a breakthrough designed sports shoe, specifically designed for squash players. Hi-Tec Magnum was established in 1982 when the FBI training centre needed lightweight, athletic tactical boots rather than the hiking boots they had previously used.
For over 30 years Magnum has invested heavily in research and development. 2003 saw the Elite Force series become the first ever globally certified tactical footwear collection. Since then Magnum have pushed the boundaries in design and innovation. In 2012 this was recognised when Magnum won the SATRE PPE Innovation Award for ‘Best Innovation in Safety Footwear’.
Features and Technologies
SuperFabric: Engineered for optimum resistance to cuts, punctures and abrasions, whilst remaining highly flexible. SuperFabric allows for optimal properties such as flame resistance, and specialised grip.
i-shield: A method that shields all open types of leather and most types of fabric on Magnum products from water, oil and dirt. The boots will repel water, oil and dirt meaning they stay cleaner for longer and keep your feet dry. I-shield does not affect the breathability of the boot, just enhances the surface. (HT101)
Sympatex: This membrane is 100% waterproof, 100% windproof, highly breathable and moisture wicking for cool, dry comfort. The sealed seams are guaranteed to offer long-lasting waterproof protection and insulates against the wind. (HT013)
Agion: A slow releasing compound of silver ions increases with rising temperatures and moisture to combat bacterial growth keeping your feet healthier and your boots odour free. (HT066)
Cambrelle: Cambrelle linings offer Comfort, Abrasion resistance, Moisture management, and Bi-component fibres: it is Reliable, Effective and Long-lasting: it’s a Lining that goes the Extra mile. The lining constantly adapts to the motion of the foot and the footwear, providing the highest level of abrasion resistance. This in turn produces countless microscopic air pockets that not only allow air to circulate but add to the cushioning effect to create a constant, comfortable micro-climate around the foot. (HT001)
Thinsulate: Microfibres trap air molecules between you and the outside. The more air a material traps in a given space the greater its insulating value.
M-PACT: Magnum Performance Athletic Comfort Technology insoles are shock absorbing insole made from active contour memory foam for support and comfort. (HT073)
Ortholite: Magnum use Ortholite insoles because they are made with open cell foam which allows air to circulate around the foot. It also creates a moisture management system which draws moisture away from the foot so your feet stay cool and dry. The anti-microbial properties fight fungus, bacteria and odour to keep your feet healthy.
X-Traction Zone: This outsole has been specifically designed for maximum grip and stability. Siping in the outer regions allows your foot to stick better to wet surfaces. The angles of the heel breaks and inner lugs are designed to maximise the foot’s ability to control movement for more stability.
